Secret Lake near Hi-tec City
Sun, Jan 9 2005 06:58AM
Though Hyderabad is going through its "Hi-tec" revolution, there is still emphasis on being outdoors. Thus, there are parks all over the city, including this one on Secret Lake. (Hyderabad)

Sculpture at Shilparamam
Mon, Jan 10 2005 04:35PM
This was my favorite place in Hyderabad. In the daytime it was a peaceful, beautiful place showcasing arts-and-crafts from the area, at night it was filled with vendors from all over the country alongside performers and mendhi artists. (Hyderabad)

A view of old Hyderabad
Mon, Jan 10 2005 04:42PM
While the rest of the state is predominantly hindu and telugu, the old part of the city is mostly muslim and urdu-speaking. (Can you spot the women in purdah?)

Laad Bazaar
Mon, Jan 10 2005 05:02PM
Walking the streets of this bazaar confirms the notion that you can buy anything in Hyderabad (for any price). From medicine to bangles to books to furniture, it was all for sale in this bazaar. As you walk, vendors call out to you promising you a good deal (Hyderabad)

Mon, Jan 10 2005 05:56PM
If you are cheap (like us), you can take a rickety metal boat to this island. If you are fancy, you can take another rickety metal boat with a DJ and dancers. One thing I love about India: the prevalence of male back-up dancers. (Hyderabad)

Fortuneteller.
Mon, Jan 10 2005 06:17PM
The fortune teller lets this sad parrot out of its cage for about a minute so it can choose a card at random that supposedly tells your fate. I was told that I'm a foreigner (true) and that I'm going to get married and make lots of money (not true). (Hyderabad)

Tue, Jan 11 2005 04:46PM
