10th Anniversary of The Streak -- Thu, Jul 7 2005 10:59PM

A little less than two months from now marks the 10th anniversary of Cal Ripken, Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games played (September 6th).

To commemorate the event, the Ripken Foundation is selling wrist bands at $2 each with all proceeds benefiting the Cal Sr. Foundation and the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

On a related note, it pisses me off that MLB has latched on to these charity wristbands as a "collectible craze" and sells them for profit in most team's colors. Tacky.

I noticed that there were no Orioles' wristbands on MLB's site, but I think I've seen them...can't be sure though.

Why throw your money away on charity when you can contribute to the game you love? Haha thats awful.

So, I was watching a little bit of the game in Camden Yards the other night and one of the broadcasters was talking about the building along the outfield. He kept talking about how the first thing he always thinks when he looks out there is seeing "2131" hanging just as that picture shows them. Yeah, I was only 10, but I'm just the same way; that's all I can ever think of when I look out there.

Yeah, I was only 10,

my dear god.... 10!?!?!?! damn young folk !-) (yeah, sure, so i was only 14, but i was at least in high school.).

truth be told, this was one of the most memorable sporting events i've ever witnessed, in person or televised. the lap around the stadium was incredible and for once, the tv announcers (read: chris berman) got things right by staying quiet throughout it all.

good lord, that was TEN YEARS AGO? it seems like it was only yesterday.

you know how much i hate baseball, and that was still one of the coolest things i've ever seen.
