This one looks the nicest, IMO. I guess none of them are purely system tray apps though?

Yeah, I agree, this one looks the nicest.

Does it allow photos to be pushed?

- josh, Tue, Dec 28 2004 06:26AM

Haven't seen pics in RSS feeds yet. This one is a decent reader, it's weird that u cant see summaries in klipfolio. None had email notification yet :( so no text messages to the cell. But I only got halfway down the list and skipped the .net ones. Anybody else want to try some? http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/misctools/fwrssreaders.html

Not purely system tray, tho most allow startup in system tray, so you can just leave 'em down. But u have to click on the popup fast when it shows up.

Sounds like making a slick RSS reader that allows feeds is a useful new project. I'm interested in participating. Dave?

Haha, does that mean you are interested in developing or providing requirements? :-)

But there are 4 I reviewed and lots more on the list. I would say it's not a good market. And probably in the end ppl will only want alerters and forwarders cuz u'll never get all the features of the 'real' web site (unless u embed a browser, in which case u really are an overgrown plugin). And all like AIM would have to do is offer support and u would rather use your AIM client for consolidation anyway. my h.o.

What if we make one that all it does is watch feeds, sit in the sys tray, and SMS message (email) you or display popups. It could IM you too i guess. Or I could make a site that does all that for you. IgoRSS anyone?

- dave, Tue, Dec 28 2004 08:38AM edited Tue, Dec 28 2004 08:39AM

I know, maybe one of those (or another) does tho. I have java code (cmd line) that alerts based on a polling sql query, would be easy to have it pull an XML. I've thought about doing it, one of the reasons I was trying to find it already done tho. [edit: igoRSS - tellin' ya man, all comes down to GUI!!! ;-)]

I would really like igo to be more tightly tied in to IM, so I'd like your subscriptions (comments, posts, albums, and entire site) to be pushed to you via IM (text, photos, and all). Right now we've got different ways of finding out different things, but putting them all together could be helpful for an igo-client that is useful in other ways (e.g. as an RSS client, or even as an igo-posting app).

I can't do photos unless I switch over from TOC to Oscar, and there really aren't any great Java libraries for that at the moment. What I really need to do at this point is partner with someone who can actually print photos and entire albums so I can start making money.

- dave, Tue, Dec 28 2004 09:07AM

Oh yeah, I forgot about IM msgs, would be sweet of course... Yeah, album printing could be big. You know, natacha used to work with printer people for ads. Maybe u could start there? I mean, ideally it would be like those semi-glossy sort of thicker-page magazines (not the glossy hp paper or whatever). Ppl would pay I think. Also give users a "backup."
